In the meantime, I’m going to reveal a little secret: The Magic Eight Ball is a phony. Pfft. No way can it tell the future. Here’s how it works:

    Maybe the “magic” of the 8 ball really comes from the fact that, regardless of whether we know the construction or not, we don’t know the answer it’ll give. Of course, that’s like assigning a result to each side of a dice before rolling it.

    (I know that’s the plural version, and I used it on purpose, despite the fact its usage was singular.)

    I remember, when I first saw one of these, I was trying to count the number of sides the dice had just by looking at the size/shape of what I could see. (I don’t think I ever thought it was magic.)
