Anger at McCain over Judges

Posted on May 25, 2005. Filed under: Politics | Tags: , , , , , , , , |

First off, let’s be clear about what happened yesterday. There was no “compromise.” The Republicans gave in, the Democrats won. Judicial nominees, by US Constitution, are nominimated by the President and the Senate is supposed to “advise and consent.” In other words, vote. The “compromise” lets the Republicans vote on 3 judges, Priscilla Owen, Janice [...]

Call a Thing By Its Name

Buried deep within the bowels of Chasing the Wind are the comments section, where most of the time it seems to be the place where you can disagree with me. Sometimes y’all agree with me, sometimes you don’t. On a recent post, I made the observation that the view toward abortion has become more commonplace, [...]

The Casual Abortion

Posted on May 23, 2005. Filed under: Serious Stuff | Tags: , , , , , , |

Last week, a new report came out that showed women were more casual about abortions now – rather than something to be avoided, some women would have multiple abortions instead of using birth control (or heaven forbid, abstaining altogether). Muslim riots everywhere, and at least 16 people died in Afghanistan. Then Newsweek said they couldn’t verify the story was true. Oops. So there’s a lot of [...]

Howard Dean on DeLay, Bin Laden

Posted on May 19, 2005. Filed under: Politics | Tags: , , , , , , |

Howard Dean, Dec 19, 2003 on Osama bin Laden: “I’ve resisted pronouncing a sentence before guilt is found,” Dean said. “I still have this old-fashioned notion that even with people like Osama, who is very likely to be found guilty, we should do our best not to, in positions of executive power, not to prejudge [...]
