It's Not About the Oil

This Iraqi on his blog shares a letter from an American soldier. The soldier writes, “I’m hopeful in helping the Iraqi people stabalize the security situation so you guys can get on with daily life and a future full of prosperity. I believe in our mission to restore Iraq, so much, that I am willing to give my life towards its accomplishment.”

The Iraqi responds, ” I received this e-mail from an American soldier yesterday. After getting his approval, I decided to publish it because I wanted you to share his great words with me. I can’t express how I felt when I first read the message but all I can say about it is that I felt grateful beyond words, it gave me hope, courage and more confidence in that we’re on the right path…. So tell me again. This guy is an occupier and wants to kill our children, rape our women..oil..blah blah blah.”

Iraqi the Model blogspot is written by 3 Iraqi brothers living in Baghdad. Unlike the news you see nightly on TV about how much the insurgents hate us, reading private blogs direct from Iraqi citizens that are thankful the US has come to help is refreshing.

Solomon, in the book of Ecclesiastes, said, “I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.”

If you’re not living for the glory of God, then what you’re doing is meaningless, no matter what it is. Living for God gives life meaning, and enjoying a “chasing after the wind” is a gift from God. I’m doing what I can to enjoy this gift daily.
