Rather than post stream-of-consciousness back-to-back-to-back articles, here’s my last minute thoughts before I turn in.
Fox News has a poll out, their summary says
The latest Fox News poll finds that while President Bush’s job rating remains below 50 percent and pessimism about the nation’s economy grows, the election matchup shows little movement. In addition, on the Iraqi prisoner abuse scandal, the poll finds a majority believes the abuse was limited to a few soldiers and most are confident those responsible will be brought to justice, but few support financially compensating the abused prisoners.
I’m not sure I understand the “growing pessimism” part – we should have the pessimism out of the way by now. All the economic signs are showing things are looking up.
Here are some oddities though –
9. Overall, do you think America will be a more successful country if (Bush) gets elected or if (Kerry) gets elected?
All Dem Rep Ind 1. Bush 38% 9% 79% 33% 2. Kerry 39 74 7 28 3. (Same) 9 5 7 18 4. (Not sure) 14 12 7 21
Independents don’t have any idea what’s going on. Who are these 9% of the Democrats that like Bush (hawkish pro-life Democrats?) and the 7% of the Republicans that like Kerry (gay anti-war activist Republicans?)
20. On the situation in Iraq today, where do you think most of the problems are being created?
1. In Iraq 23% 2. In Washington, DC, or 18 3. In the news media 27 4. (Combination) 21 5. (All) 8 6. (None) - 7. (Not sure) 3
Heh. Everybody thinks the media is causing most of the trouble. 😛
27. Which of the following news stories upset you more?
1. The abuse of Iraqi prisoners by U.S. soldiers 8% 2. The beheading of an American civilian by Muslim terrorists 60 3. (Both equal) 29 4. (Not sure) 3
The story of Nick Berg has almost disappeared from the news. The prison humiliation stories continue to grow like brain fungus
Other good stuff tonight, Right Thinking Girl has a critique of John Kerry’s new slogan, “Let America Be America Again.”. Pre-September 11 mindset. Pretend it never happened. Terrorists only bomb overseas Americans, and that was ok.
And at Small Dead Animals, The Vast Right Wing Conspiracy is exposed:
Well, Laura, you found us out. I confess… there is a Vast Right Wing Conspiracy[tm] and nobody noticed until now. I know this is true, because, well… I’m in it. And now that you’ve found us out, I’ve been given permission to tell you the rest.
Please, sit down.
There never were any weapons of mass destruction. None. Anywhere. We knew that all along – there never was a Halabja. It was filmed in a remote part of Texas hill country. Mexican illegals, playing dead for the camera. Rumsfeld directed – he shook Saddam’s hand, didn’t he? It was all fake, Laura. Didn’t you notice the flags were waving? Waving, Laura. There’s no atmosphere in northern Iraq.
It’s Vietnam all over again. Tet. My Lai (did you know it’s pronounced “me lie”?) Soldiers raping babies. Quagmire quagmire quagmire. Bush lied. Bush is stupid. Bush is a chimp. An evil mastermind Nazi puppet chimp who engineered the takeover of America by stealing the election. And he’s ours. We hold the strings.
We murdered Vince Foster, just to watch him die. And so we could blame Hillary.
There’s a lot more at Small Dead Animals. Our cover is blown.
