Chasing the Wind

News. Faith. Nonsense.

The Background Has to Go?

I’ve been blogging for…. um, about 2 weeks. Too much blogging. It’s 1/2 hour after bedtime, and I’m still blogging. I like it. I do it too much. And I’ve learned a lot.

I’ve learned I haven’t picked the best tool for me. I started at Livejournal, didn’t like it. I *do* like Dreamweaver, but it’s not a blogging tool. I switched over to Blogger.com, and so I spent the next 2 weeks learning style sheets and getting blogger.com integrated. Now I can’t figure out why I need blogger.com in the first place – I’ve completely bypassed their commenting ability in favor of Haloscan commenting and trackback. And I’m doing my best to build a new community with links to other blogs and participating on their site. It’s slow, but it’s working. 🙂

So I’ve been reading up on blogging software. most of the best sites I’ve seen are done on Movable Type, but apparently lots of people don’t like the 3.0 licensing scheme. That wouldn’t affect me, I’m just a single author, single blog. I’ve been reading up on WordPress lately, too. And I need to make an RSS feed available (there’s an Atom feed but it’s not listed on this page anywhere). And I need a RSS reader.

Then I stumbled upon this little doodad today:

4. RE:Blogs that have captured your attention – – no number limit here – – hand out some link luvin’s from your blog to theirs

Chasing The Wind: interesting newcomer. Some good stuff so far, like this take on Michael Moore and the Palm d’Or (ooh, that rhymes)
p.s. to Michael @ Chasing the Wind: I mostly like what you’re doing there, but that background has got to go.

Heh. First of all, I appreciate the compliment, and I’m going to pop back over to Vox (ack! It’s 41 minutes past my bedtime now!) and let him know. And yes, I’ve noticed that *all* of the blog’s I’ve visited are on easy-to-read backgrounds. That hasn’t been lost on me. I still like the background I have, but it’s too much. I was going to switch to a solid light blue background and just use the swirly backgroung for trim (sort of the way the left side column looks now), but several friends told me in person that they like the swirly background. That gave me deer-in-the-headlights indecision, and I haven’t done anything with it since.

They don’t have a blog, Mr. Miss “Vox” B Kennelly. You do. I’ll make it a priority to make a decision soon about the overwhelming colors. You, see, this was just a whim last month…

What do the rest of you think? Lose the background? Keep it? Replace it with cute little puppy dogs?

About Me

Michael, a sinner saved by grace, sharing what the good Lord has shared with me.

Solomon, in the book of Ecclesiastes, said, “I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.”

If you’re not living for the glory of God, then what you’re doing is meaningless, no matter what it is. Living for God gives life meaning, and enjoying a “chasing after the wind” is a gift from God. I’m doing what I can to enjoy this gift daily.

Got questions? I’m not surprised. If you have any questions about Chasing the Wind, you can email me at chasingthewind@outlook.com.

      I.      Introduction – The Temple In our class last week, Tommy taught us that we should be prepared for the coming of the Lord.  Well, He’s here.  And here in Luke 2, we get our only inspired snapshot of Jesus between infancy and adulthood.  And we’ll see in just a few short verses something… Read more: The Temple

    I.             Introduction An old friend once told me a story that every married man understands. His wife tried on a new dress and asked, “Does this dress make me look fat?” He answered with complete honesty. It was true – and it was also unwise. Later he said something I have never forgotten: truth and… Read more: Finding Wisdom

    I.             Icebreaker — Stories of Reconciliation Before we turn to Nehemiah, let me connect us to where we’ve been the past couple of weeks. Two weeks ago, Tommy used home renovation shows—things like Property Brothers—to help us think about rebuilding. That fit Nehemiah well, because Nehemiah quite literally asks the king for permission to rebuild… Read more: Confession, Reconciliation, Celebration
