Arnold Schwarzenegger took over a tough job in California – spending is way out of control, the people are already taxed to their eyeballs, and Arnold has to get the budget under control. He’s trying to do it by compromising up the middle – floating some bonds and cutting some programs. His problem is that the California Democrats have stalled his budget; the thing Arnold wants to cut are special interest programs the Democrats need to pay off their base for votes.
“If they don’t have the guts to come up here in front of you and say, ‘I don’t want to represent you, I want to represent those special interests, the unions, the trial lawyers … if they don’t have the guts, I call them girlie men,” Schwarzenegger said to the cheering crowd at a mall food court in Ontario.
Arnold’s spokesman said no apology would be forthcoming for calling them “girlie men.” The reference is from the 1980’s Dana Carvey impersonations from Saturday Night Live‘s “Pump You Up” skits.
Democrats, of course, flipped out, saying the governor’s remarks were insulting to women and gays. (My opinion is that is was more offensive to real girlie men being compared to California Democrats).
The perfect place to ask this question is here at Babes-R-Us. So a question for the women reading Chasing the Wind (those that do *not* read Chasing the Wind are ineligible): When Arnold called California Democrats “girlie men,” do you feel that you were insulted?
