I’ve noticed the liberal media has dried up on a topic they covered in detail earlier this year. Aghast that George Bush was going to drastically outspend their opponent of choice, the news overflowed with the vast amounts of wealth George Bush had compared the pitiful pauper John Kerry. Now that John Kerry has raised more money ($304 million) than Bush ($243.6 million), the elite media has grown silent on the topic.
For decades, the Republican party was said to cater to the big money elite, while Democrats had the support of the everyday working man. But that hasn’t been true for a number of years.
The Wall Street Journal has some of the numbers:
Starting in the 1960s and ’70s, whole blocs of “little guys”–ethnics, rural residents, evangelicals, cops, construction workers, homemakers, military veterans–began moving into the Republican column. And big chunks of America’s rich elite–financiers, academics, heiresses, media barons, software millionaires, entertainers–drifted into the Democratic Party.
What of the persistent rumors about the influence oil companies have on Republican? That, too, has seriously diminished over the years. As of July, the entire oil & gas industry had donated $15 million. Law partners had donated $112 million, 70 percent of that to Democrats.
527 groups, a thorn in the President’s side ever since MoveOn.org started morphing pictures of Bush into Hitler, are also predominantly Democratic. (In contrast, only one 527 group is a thorn in John Kerry’s side, the Swift Boat Veterans for truth). The top 527 groups are overwhelmingly Democratic. Let’s take a look at the top 10 and see where the money is going.
- Joint Victory Campaign 2004, $41.6 million. Partially funded by billionaire George Soros who is spending millions of dollars to defeat George Bush. Democrat.
- Media Fund, $28.1 million. Partially funded by Joint Victory Campaign (a 527 funds another 527 which I find most odd) and the AFL-CIO. Democrat.
- America Coming Together (ACT), $26.9 million. Funded by Soros and Joint Victory. Democrat.
- Service Employees International Union, $16.6 million. Partially funded by ACT. Democrat.
- American Federation of State, County, Municipal Employees, $13.7 million. I went to their home page that endorses John Kerry. Democrat.
- MoveOn.org, $17.4 million spent, though they say they’ve only raised $9 million. Democrat.
- New Democrat Network, $7.1 million. Democrat.
- Club for Growth, $6.7 million. Finally, a Republican 527.
- EMILY’s List, $4.1 million. Democrat.
- AFL-CIO, $4.1 million. Democrat.
The news media isn’t going to cover this because it doesn’t do John Kerry any good, but it’s obvious the Democrat Party is now the party of big money and special interests. The Republican party is for the average working joe.
