The ACLU has found a target to pick on – the Boy Scouts of America.
In response to a religious discrimination lawsuit brought by the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois, the Defense Department today agreed to end direct sponsorship of hundreds of Boy Scout units, which require members to swear religious oaths, on military facilities across the United States and overseas.
Perhaps the ACLU thinks that somehow supporting an organization that requires its boys to be morally straight:
On my honor I will do my best
to do my duty to God and my country;
to obey the Scout Law;
to help other people at all times;
to keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.
Basically, duty to God, country, other people, and finally themselves. And the ACLU thought this was worthy enough to sue the US Government over?
As the Wall Street Journal “Best of the Web” put it today, “The ACLU used to be so committed to free expression that it would even represent Nazis and Klansmen seeking to express their views. But apparently they draw the line at the Boy Scouts.”
