Dan Rather Cleans Out His Desk

Dan Rather is the one on the right.
I lost respect for Dan Rather over the whole Memogate; I was irritated that a news organization, portraying itself as independent and factual, was trying to bring down President Bush by using fake documents. And they weren’t even quality fakes, they were inept fakes. I ranted about this amoral behavior here and here and here and here and here and here and here. As you can tell, I was shy about sharing my opinion. 😛

The CBS management, no doubt influenced by Dan Rather’s deal last performance in the news ratings and the embarrasment over Memogate, has fired Dan Rather today. Oh sure, they’re trying to portray this as Dan Rather voluntarily retiring, but I’m not buying it. He was fired for poor ratings and inept reporting. They’ll keep Rather around until March for appearances’ sake.

So long, bye bye, don’t let the door hit you on the way out. Perhaps CBS management will use this opportunity to do some soul searching about what an unbiased news team ought to be doing.

Solomon, in the book of Ecclesiastes, said, “I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.”

If you’re not living for the glory of God, then what you’re doing is meaningless, no matter what it is. Living for God gives life meaning, and enjoying a “chasing after the wind” is a gift from God. I’m doing what I can to enjoy this gift daily.
