Chasing the Wind

Rant Against Rebates

I really dislike the rebate system that a lot of companies are using.

I bought a gift this Christmas that was a little over my price range, but it came with a rebate coupon for $50. I cut the UPC symbol off the box, filled out the paperwork, and waited.

Eight weeks later, I get a postcard that the “UPC symbol for the $20 rebate is invalid.” $#(&$^@. They didn’t even get the amount of the coupon right, and since I gave away the box as a gift, I don’t have access to the UPC symbol anymore. I feel I just got ripped off $50.

So, Epson Company – here’s my notice that you’ve lost me as a satisfied customer. You just ripped me for $50.

  1. This happened to me a few times. Usually a call to the rebate hotline can do the trick; some patience may be necessary however. Good luck!

  2. The practice of using rebates to lure people into stores is infuriating. CompUSA seems to be the champion of this practice and hasn’t had enough complaints to alter their practice. I have written a few lines in ‘Semper Blog’ to vent my feelings. I would love to foment a revolution among consumers to somehow stop this ugly practice.

My experience of receiving reject message is much the same as yours.

  3. It’s a game they make me play. 😦 What am I going to do, turn down the rebate?

About Me

Michael, a sinner saved by grace, sharing what the good Lord has shared with me.

Solomon, in the book of Ecclesiastes, said, “I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.”

If you’re not living for the glory of God, then what you’re doing is meaningless, no matter what it is. Living for God gives life meaning, and enjoying a “chasing after the wind” is a gift from God. I’m doing what I can to enjoy this gift daily.
