What a relaxing weekend! I could use more 3-day weekends like that. 🙂
Friday I started on my taxes – that’s not as bad as it sounded, I usually don’t mind doing them. I finished up the Schedule “D” stuff on capital gains, and found I still haven’t offset the losses from ’99 through ’01. Maybe next year. That night… actually, it’s been too long, I can’t remember what I did Friday night. I think Diane & I watched a movie, but I can’t remember which one. I know we ate out for some fabulous Thai food. Doh! Leftovers are still in my fridge, I should have brought that in for lunch.
Saturday I took Diane to the mall for some quick shopping, then off to the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. The worst part of the rodeo was the drive – nearly 2-1/2 hours of sitting in traffic to get a parking spot. Sheesh. Since I’m gong next weekend, too, I’m going to go earlier and go a different route.
We saw Gretchen Wilson in concert, and she sang her 2 biggest hits, “I’m Here for the Party” and “Redneck Woman.” After, we wandered the exhibit hall and attended a cattle auction. That was interesting – there’s a whole culture there I’ve never run into. One cow sold for $4800, another for $10,000, and I couldn’t tell the difference between the two. Then they auctioned off 1/6th of a bull, good for 2 months of the year, and soem guarranteed embryos and some bull semen. I didn’t bid on anything, thank goodness.
Sunday morning church service – Romans 8 in the worship service and Jeremiah 1 in bible study. Jeremiah 1:17 was a new verse for me to memorize, telling me that when God speaks and tells me to do something, I’d better get up and do it. “Get yourself ready! Stand up and say to them whatever I command you. Do not be terrified by them, or I will terrify you before them.”
Then brunch at Escalantes for some fajita migas and then a Sunday afternoon nap. I excel at Sunday afternoon naps, especially during drizzly weather. Then Diane came over and we watch an old movie, “Marvin’s Room“. I hadn’t heard of this movie, but it was very good, and had a lot of big names – Maryl Streep, Robert DeNiro, Diane Keaton, Leonardo DiCaprio.
I want another weekend, just like this one. 🙂
