Chasing the Wind

News. Faith. Nonsense.

Hauled in Front of the Boss

This morning I got the call that makes everybody tremble. “Michael, this is Major Boss. Can you come to my office right away?”

Last time I got called to her office, I had parked in a reserved parking space. She was a little irritated that building management had escalated my errant parking behavior to her level, but that was a long time ago. Surely she’s forgiven me by now?

I walk in to her office and my direct supervisor is also there. I said, “Uh oh, I must really be in trouble. I promise I’m no longer parking in the reserved parking spaces, haha.”

“Haha,” they both agree. Major Boss says, “We’ve taken your past parking behavior and your work quality and decided that we’re going to have to promote you to Principle Engineer and give you a nice raise.”

“Haha,” I say. (pause) “Oh… you’re serious. Wow, thank you very much!” They told me how much they like what I’m doing here and that they want me to know they’d like me to stay. I’m replied that I feel I really fit here and I’m enjoying my job, and if they want to haul me down here to Major Boss’s office and give me a raise and a promotion, I’d be happy to come down anytime they want.

I’m very thankful for the unexpected promotion today. There, that’s enough of tooting my own horn, I’m done now. 😀

  2. Congratulations, dude. You are only one of a handful of nice guys I know and deserve it.

    But….

Pizza is on you from now on.

I would give myself a raise, but…. well you know where this is going…

  5. Thanks, everybody! The funny thing is I just got through pledging a tithe for this year I wasn’t sure I was going to make, and the raise just about covers the whole tithe. It all belonged to God, and He’s arranged to make it easier for me to give it back. 🙂

  10. Man, I wish we had reserved parking at our work! 😉

Anyway, VERY excited for you, I am sure you will show them you deserve it. My favorite part is how God met your tithe pledge. Where God guides…God provides. (an adjusted version of Psalm 23:1-3) He definitely rewards our acts of faith.

  11. Thanks – it actually took a day before I realized that this was God’s answer. I’m slow some days. 😛

About Me

Michael, a sinner saved by grace, sharing what the good Lord has shared with me.

Solomon, in the book of Ecclesiastes, said, “I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.”

If you’re not living for the glory of God, then what you’re doing is meaningless, no matter what it is. Living for God gives life meaning, and enjoying a “chasing after the wind” is a gift from God. I’m doing what I can to enjoy this gift daily.

Got questions? I’m not surprised. If you have any questions about Chasing the Wind, you can email me at chasingthewind@outlook.com.
