Chasing the Wind

News. Faith. Nonsense.

Brave Woman of God

I am quite impressed with Ashley Smith.

A violent man in an Atlanta courthouse for his rape trial Friday morning took a deputy’s gun, killed the judge and three others, then fled. He found Ashley coming back from the grocery store and took her hostage inside her own apartment.

ATLANTA – For hours, Ashley Smith gently talked to the armed suspect in Atlanta’s courthouse slayings, turning from hostage to confidant as they discussed God, family, pancakes and the massive manhunt going on outside her apartment.

“I believe God brought him to my door,” Smith said Sunday, only hours after her 911 call ended a manhunt for Brian Nichols, who is accused of shooting four people since Friday.

Over the course of the night, Nichols untied Smith, and some of the fear lessened as they talked. Nichols told Smith he felt like “he was already dead,” but Smith urged him to consider the fact that he was still alive a “miracle.”

“You’re here in my apartment for some reason,” she told him, saying he might be destined to be caught and to spread the word of God to fellow prisoners. She told him his escape from authorities had been a “miracle.”

Held hostage by a murderer and rapist, she teaches him the Word of God and tells him he could do the same for fellow prisoners. Incredible.

Update here:

“You’re here in my apartment for some reason,” she told him, saying he might be destined to be caught and to spread the word of God to fellow prisoners. She also read the bible to Nichols, reports CBS News Correspondent Jim Acosta.

“He told me I was his angel, sent from God, and that I was his sister and he was my brother in Christ,” said Smith.

Ashley Smith’s testimony is incredibly touching. Video is here.

While held hostage for those seven hours, she read Purpose Driven Life to Brian Nichols. She asked him about his purpose in life, what talents he had been given to use and discussed …

  4. Faith Helped Courthouse Shootings Hostage

He certainly gave Ashley the necessary peace to enable her to survive the encounter. I don’t know or care what Nichols does in prison, but I do wonder what important job He has in store for Ashley.

  6. I am following this story, too. One thing: are we all sure that the story she told the media is what really happened inside that apartment? Before we build her up into a saint, and I hope she is a saint, let’s wait until the entire truth comes out. Things coulda happened inside the house that we do not know about yet. I believe her story. But…..sometimes people don’t tell the truth in cases like this, or any cases. Americans are big on lying lately.

About Me

Michael, a sinner saved by grace, sharing what the good Lord has shared with me.

Solomon, in the book of Ecclesiastes, said, “I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.”

If you’re not living for the glory of God, then what you’re doing is meaningless, no matter what it is. Living for God gives life meaning, and enjoying a “chasing after the wind” is a gift from God. I’m doing what I can to enjoy this gift daily.

Got questions? I’m not surprised. If you have any questions about Chasing the Wind, you can email me at chasingthewind@outlook.com.
