Chasing the Wind

News. Faith. Nonsense.

Weeeeeeeekend

I live for weekends. 🙂

I have a lot of things going on at the moment, so it’ll be a full weekend. I’m pretty sure we had a thought process like, “We are getting married so soon – is there anything we can do to make our lives even more frantic before then? How about if we also have the reception at home? And how about if we remodel the entire downstairs first? Alrighty then! Let’s do it!”

The last couple of weekends have been spring cleaning, a purging of the old to make room for the new. Sure, those instructions for a phone I no longer own are important, as well as a Earnst and Young tax advice book for 1995, but I must make room, so those priceless treasures have to go.

I’ve also been interviewing contractors and selecting materials for a full blown revamp of the entire downstairs. The carpet in the study, dining room, and living room will be ripped out and replaced with an exotic cherry engineered wood that makes Diane swoon, so I *had* to get that. The study will have a built-in bookshelf ripped out, old dark walnut wainscotting removed, and theater surround sound wiring installed. Then the old stained fiberglass tub will be removed and replaced with a new steel and enamel tub, then the whole bathroom tiled. New light fixture for the dining room, ceiling fan installed in the study.

In the front foyer, this old hideous maroon and cream tile will be removed and replaced with slate. The carpet on the stairs will be replaced with WilsonArt laminate wood flooring, and the wood banister removed and replaced with wrought iron. And the kitchen sliding glass doors replace with French doors.

Earnest will be doing the wood floor installation and the wood stairs, Rocky will be doing the rest. Total costs are right at $25,000, but I’ve been saving for years to make sure I was ready for this day. It has to be finished before the end of May to let the dust settle since the wedding reception will be here. Yeehaw!

I always think, “I should take before and after pictures,” but I never get around to it. I don’t think Diane ever thinks things like that; she just does it. In fact, she already has. I’ll get her to email me some (including those of Patch the Cone Head) so y’all can get a visual of what’s going on.

So today I’ll be at the hardware store shopping for ceiling fans and dining room lights. After that, I don’t know. Some other adventure, I’m sure.

About Me

Michael, a sinner saved by grace, sharing what the good Lord has shared with me.

Solomon, in the book of Ecclesiastes, said, “I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.”

If you’re not living for the glory of God, then what you’re doing is meaningless, no matter what it is. Living for God gives life meaning, and enjoying a “chasing after the wind” is a gift from God. I’m doing what I can to enjoy this gift daily.

Got questions? I’m not surprised. If you have any questions about Chasing the Wind, you can email me at chasingthewind@outlook.com.

      I.      Introduction Sometimes when I study, I get a plot, like in the Book of Jonah or Exodus or Acts.  I enjoy studying it, the plot, the life lesson, the historical significance, the miracles, and the fishing lessons.    But Psalms is usually hard for me.  I read today’s scripture and thought, “It’s a… Read more: Halleluiah!       I.      Introduction – The Temple In our class last week, Tommy taught us that we should be prepared for the coming of the Lord.  Well, He’s here.  And here in Luke 2, we get our only inspired snapshot of Jesus between infancy and adulthood.  And we’ll see in just a few short verses something… Read more: The Temple

    I.             Introduction An old friend once told me a story that every married man understands. His wife tried on a new dress and asked, “Does this dress make me look fat?” He answered with complete honesty. It was true – and it was also unwise. Later he said something I have never forgotten: truth and… Read more: Finding Wisdom

    I.             Icebreaker — Stories of Reconciliation Before we turn to Nehemiah, let me connect us to where we’ve been the past couple of weeks. Two weeks ago, Tommy used home renovation shows—things like Property Brothers—to help us think about rebuilding. That fit Nehemiah well, because Nehemiah quite literally asks the king for permission to rebuild… Read more: Confession, Reconciliation, Celebration
