Chasing the Wind

The busy weekend is over. Whew.

Friday was a visit to the county clerk to sign up for a marriage license. The clerk looked at our drivers licenses suspiciously. “You have the same last name,” she said. Bah, let her wonder. 😛

Saturday was the Spring Fling (I posted a picture over the weekend). Diane was stunning. She told me I looked good enough to marry. 🙂

Sunday was church, and our friend Gary joined our church. He has been such an inspiration; he hardly knows anybody yet, being new to Houston, but he dives right in and starts serving.

Sunday afternoon I joined TeamKid and I’ll be teaching 3rd grade bible class. Lord help our future generation.

And today I’ll be changing stock brokers; don’t get me started on Brown & Company’s false interpretation of the SEC Regulation T. They *know* they’re misapplying the rule but they’re going to do it anyway. Grrr.

Ok, so where does that leave me today? Overwhelmed with topics I’m following.

• Newsweek lied, people died. Last week, Newsweek told a story from Guantanamo that interrogators were flushing pages of the Qur’an down the toilet. Muslims demonstrated against the US all over the world; at least 15 died in Afghanistan. But Newsweek admits after the fact that the story wasn’t true.
• Nebraska voters approved a state constitutional amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman. A federal judge struck it down as unconstitutional. Last year, a Marriage Amendment was defeated in the US Senate because they said it was a states rights issues – but apparently it isn’t that, either. This is why conservatives have been pushing for a constitutional amendment.
• The Evangelical Diablog has opened a topic for discussion among Christian conservatives: Should Christians support the death penalty? The Bible commands us to support our government unless it contradicts God’s Word, so I’ve been a proponent of enforcing existing death penalty laws. But more and more, I’m starting to question whether the death penalty is right. Is it up to man to end the life of one of God’s creatures? And once they’re dead, it’s awful hard to get them to accept Jesus.
• David Limbaugh compares the relationship between the Democrats and the Christian conservatives as like the relationship of an abusive husband in complete denial.
• College students overwhelmingly believe in God and attend religious services. Whew. I’ve been concerned about our future generation, but this restores some hope.
• Blame Bush satirizes wonderfully again – there will be a meeting to discuss the starvation of the homeless as a result of Bush’s policies at Tony Roma’s. They have good ribs and excellent dessert there.
• Another Day Closer tells us that Howard Dean, current leader of the Democratic Party, has endorsed Socialist Bernie Sanders for US Senate.
• OpinionJournal tells us the only thing worse than eliminating the filibuster against judicial nominees is not eliminating the filibuster.
