Chasing the Wind

News. Faith. Nonsense.

My Spare Time is Gonna Kill Me

Dang it’s quiet here without the noisy pitter patter of… huge teenage shoes. I’m going to have to fill this time with something worthwhile or I’ll go bonkers. And I am *not* bonkers yet, wiseguy.

I’m back at the gym for the first time in years. I really had no excuse, other than I’d rather hang around and be near my teen more than I wanted to spend time at the gym. There is a brand new Bally’s within a mile of where I live and it’s on my way home from work. *And* I have a free lifetime membership.

The machines have really improved since I was last at a gym. They’re more robust, smoother. The weight adjustments have all been moved to within reach so you don’t have to get up, adjust the pin, sit back down, try the weight again. I’m committed (quiet, wiseguy) to working out 3 times a week for a lot of reasons – I want to be back to my dating weight, I want to lower my blood pressure, I want to weigh less than my friends. 😛

I tried to take the first night easy; I hit all the machines, lighter weights than I could handle, 1 set each, then the bicycle for 20 minutes. I’ll double that on Thurday, but I’m already a bit sore. This new hobby hurts.

I weighed myself for the first time in a years, too, afraid to see the damage. I literally had to blow the dust… er, well, turn the scale upside down and rub the scale on the carpet to get the dust off in true guy fashion. The damage was worse than I feared… 231 lbs. I put on 45 lbs in 5 years. I blame the cheese in Texas; they didn’t have cheese when I lived in Singapore.

With a combination of exercise and diet, I’ll be 180 in 18 months.

Uptown – Today I hurt a little in a good way. Just like Patch after his day at Bark Park. 🙂

About Me

Michael, a sinner saved by grace, sharing what the good Lord has shared with me.

Solomon, in the book of Ecclesiastes, said, “I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.”

If you’re not living for the glory of God, then what you’re doing is meaningless, no matter what it is. Living for God gives life meaning, and enjoying a “chasing after the wind” is a gift from God. I’m doing what I can to enjoy this gift daily.

Got questions? I’m not surprised. If you have any questions about Chasing the Wind, you can email me at chasingthewind@outlook.com.
