Chasing the Wind

News. Faith. Nonsense.

Michael Swears Off Dating Again

I mentioned a few months ago that’s I’ve mostly given up dating. For my mental health, I tell myself. Maybe once a year I’ll try a date or two, then give it up again. Sometimes I think about going to the gym and working out in order to impress women, but hey, that’s why I took up blogging. Heh.

So back in July, this woman contacts me through that Yahoo personals thangy, and she wasn’t President of the Toothless Society of America after all. In fact, she was charming. She was witty, very intelligent, very petite and pretty, and very well off. Quite well read, too; we playfully sparred over vocabulary and literature on the first date. Since I didn’t make the first move, she eventually invited me out, and we had a wonderful dinner in the River Oaks area. Tamara was her name.

A week or two goes by, I invite Tamara to a movie (“The Notebook,” I like chick flicks) and dinner. I’m still quite impressed with her, but for a couple of minor arbitrary reasons I decide not to continue dating. Some other guy will get lucky, I think. That was mid-July.

Fast forward to tonight. My phone rings, caller ID says it’s some guy named Steve that I don’t know. He apologizes for disturbing me, says he understands if I don’t want to talk, but his attorney has advised him to call people that might know Tamara.

He says he dated Tamara for a year and a half while she was still having a relationship with Chris, a guy she started dating while she was still married to Bruce. Steve accused Tamara of seeing Chris and other men, and then he apparently collected all the phone numbers off of Tamara’s phone, including mine. Steve and Tamara break up, but a couple of weeks later Tamara calls Steve, saying some guy got her drunk and took advantage of her. Steve goes to Tamara’s, find’s Chris’s number on Tamara’s cell phone, punches out a window because he’s mad. Tamara calls the police, has Steve arrested and after 5 weeks in jail, Steve’s finally made bail. The only reason they threw him in jail, Steve says, is because it was some sort of parole violation to punch out her window. He was on parole for some sort of conviction from last September when Tamara last had him arrested. Now Steve wants to know what kind of relationship I had with Tamara so he can give his attorney my phone number. For a character witness.

I politely told him I’d talk to his attorney if his attorney thought it was necessary. My buddy Sean says I’m still his hero when it comes to dating, but I’m getting better. At least I didn’t marry this one.

That should pretty much satisfy my urge to date until late 2017. Maybe later.

  6. I think it’s more Springer than odd. 🙂

I kept waiting for the scam, and part of me was suspicious that this Steve fellow is stalking her and was just trying to find out how close we were.

  7. Finding Ms. Right is difficult. Sometimes when you think you have found the perfect someone, you begin to discover that there are just some things that don’t fit. But don’t give up on your search. At least your giving yourself a chance to date again. Finding the right partner sometimes is hard but the effort is all worth it when you’ll find her. Good luck!

About Me

Michael, a sinner saved by grace, sharing what the good Lord has shared with me.

Solomon, in the book of Ecclesiastes, said, “I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.”

If you’re not living for the glory of God, then what you’re doing is meaningless, no matter what it is. Living for God gives life meaning, and enjoying a “chasing after the wind” is a gift from God. I’m doing what I can to enjoy this gift daily.

Got questions? I’m not surprised. If you have any questions about Chasing the Wind, you can email me at chasingthewind@outlook.com.
