Chasing the Wind

News. Faith. Nonsense.

Oops. I Stepped In It.

This story has been bothering me for a week. Yesterday it finally dawned on me why it bothered me, so this morning I did something about it.

It basically comes down to there’s something between Steve and Tamara, and I don’t know the truth. And I really don’t want to. But if a) Steve’s telling me the truth, and I’ve already broken it off with Tamara, the story is over. She can be psychpathic with her next boyfriend. But if b) Tamara has a different story, then Steve’s the psychopathic one, and Tamara might be in danger. Ok, that sounds dramatic, but she might.

So I decided to call Tamara this morning. She feigns to be indignant that I never called – in a cute way – but then tells me she’s met somebody and has been dating for about a month. She tells me she remembered me joking once about not really knowing much about her background since she contacted me first online; for all I know, her ex has a restraining order on her. Then she says, “which is funny, because now I have a restraining order…”

And I said, “Which brings me to the reason for my call.” That gave her pause, she asks what I mean. I mention Steve (the name on my caller ID), which turns out to be the father of the man she has a restraining order against. She’s naturally a little nervous at this point. I fill her in with some details; “Steve” – I forgot to ask for his real name – told me he got my number from her cell phone and the phone call was last Thursday, and then I ask her if her restraining order pre-dates that. She says it does, and asks if I’d mind it if she gave my name to her attorney. I tell her to go ahead; if her safety was in jeopardy, it’s the least I can do.

Yeah, I know. I stepped in it, and I could just as easily avoided this. I felt it was the right thing to do though. I felt Tamara needed to know.

I probably haven’t heard the end of this.

About Me

Michael, a sinner saved by grace, sharing what the good Lord has shared with me.

Solomon, in the book of Ecclesiastes, said, “I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.”

If you’re not living for the glory of God, then what you’re doing is meaningless, no matter what it is. Living for God gives life meaning, and enjoying a “chasing after the wind” is a gift from God. I’m doing what I can to enjoy this gift daily.

Got questions? I’m not surprised. If you have any questions about Chasing the Wind, you can email me at chasingthewind@outlook.com.
