Chasing the Wind

Dear Family and Friends,

Her chart read, “Eminent Brain Death.”
As in all terminal cases, the limits they put on visitation was lifted. It was a very sad situation.

I spent last night in the room with Hayden. Her recovery is continuing slowly. The doctors have no explanation. She began with a very week cry that the medical staff attributed to seizure activity. The cry got stronger and louder. Ryan, Hayden’ s father approached the head doctor and he reluctantly came to the room after the cry got stronger.

He was speechless. He attempted to be distinguished as he rushed to the phone. All the staff doctors arrived at Hayden’s side in short order. They could not believe what they were seeing. She had been pronounced terminal with no chance of recovery.

As of now, her strength is improving. She is able to move as a new born. She is being fed through a tube to her stomach as she has not eaten in a week. She is crying and her movements as getting stronger. She is able to make a fist and her grip is getting tighter. As of know, she is blind. We know recovery will take time. Since this entire event is out of the medical books, the doctors are guarded with their comments.

Since this recovery has gone unmonitored by medical equipment and data, the doctors are reluctant to do anything but watch and wait. They are not going to put her back on support of any kind. They are slowly taking her off the pain medication. She is still in much discomfort and will be in PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit) for a while yet. Her vital signs are strong and getting stronger.

The out pouring of prayers and concerns has been overwhelming. Someone may have a different explanation, I call it a miracle and an answer to all your prayers. People and families have lifted her up from all corners of the country. Friends have sent word to family members in other states and they have been praying for Hayden. She is truly a miracle child.

I will continue to keep you informed as things change.

P.S. Attached are some photos of Hayden minutes before they took her off life support. You will see how badly she looked and how heart broken we were to see her in such a state.

Last evening, when I heard the news, I imediately rushed to the hospital. Had I been close to home, I would have taken my bag with the camera. To night, I will take some shots of her. You will be amazed and thrilled to see such a vast improvment.
