Hayden Update

John met with a neurologist this week. I’m sorry to report the prognosis isn’t good. Your continued prayers are needed more than ever. John’s son Ryan wrote this this morning:

Hello Everyone,

There was a meeting yesterday with the hospital staff. Hayden’s prognosis is “a persistent vegetative state.” It’s been 38 days now since the initial hypoxic brain damage occurred. No neurological progress has been seen, and none is expected due to the severity of brain damage. Hayden has no willful, meaningful action. All movement is reactionary from the area near the brain stem. Hayden has a “neurological cry” that lasts about 90-95% of her conscious day. The chances given that Hayden will lead any sort of interactive life are “nil.” We were told that Hayden will never smile, talk, move willfully, etc. A child with this sort of injury would have a life expectancy of approximately five years (average), due to infections, pneumonia, etc., that plague these patients. The ramifications of the damage will have harmful repercussions on her growth and quality of life. I now have access to Hayden’s medical charts. The only positive note in over 200 pages is that her muscles seem to be getting stronger during periods of reactionary movement. Besides that, all of the other notes by all of the doctors concur with a poor, grim, or persistent vegetative prognosis.

I am very sorry to have to inform you all of this. I wish that I could turn back the hands of time and ensure that this never happened. I know that this is a difficult time for each of you as it has been for me. My only comfort is knowing that God has some sort of master plan and that Hayden will be loved and cared for, no matter what the outcome. Please believe in that, and remember Hayden as bright, silly, beautiful baby.

  2. HI MY NAME IS JACKIE AND I AM A GOOD FRIEND OF HAYDENS MOTHER AND GRANDMOTHER FOR SEVERAL YEARS THROUGH CHURCH. THIS WEB SITE WAS BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION BY OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS AND I FOUND IT TO BE VERY MISLEADING AND FULL OF MANY INACCURACIES. THE INSINUATION THAT HAYDENS ACCIDENT WAS CAUSED BY ABUSE OR NEGLECT AT THE HANDS OF HER MOTHER OR GRANDMOTHER ARE ABSOLUTLY BIZARRE.
HAYDENS MOTHER IS YOUNG AND WORKS ALOT SO HAYDEN WAS PRIMARILY CARED FOR BY HER GRANDMOTHER. HAYDENS GRANDMOTHER WAS THE PICTURE PERFECT GRANDMA,ALWAYS AVAILABLE TO HAYDEN AND HER PARENTS ( 24 HOURS A DAY)WHILE THEY WERE STILL TOGETHER AND MORE SO AFTER HAYDENS MOM AND HAYDEN MOVED IN WITH HAYDENS GRANDMA.
WHAT HAPPENED TO HAYDEN YOU ASK…WELL HAYDENS GRANDMOTHER TAKES SEVERAL DIFFERENT MEDICATIONS AND APPARENTLY WHILE GETTING ONE OF HER DOSES FROM HER DISPENSER SHE DROPPED A PILL WITHOUT NOTICING. HAYDEN BEING THE CURIOUS LITTLE CRAWLER MUST HAVE FOUND THE PILL (WHICH IS A VERY SMALL PILL BUT STILL A STRONG PAIN PILL) AND ATE IT. WELL HAYDEN WENT TO SLEEP FOR THE NIGHT AND NO ONE KNEW SHE WAS IN DANGER OF ANY KIND. WHEN HER GRANDMA WOKE THE NEXT MORNING HAYDEN WAS IN RESPIRATORY DISTRESS AND NO ONE KNEW HOW LONG SHE HAD BEEN WITHOUT A SUFFICIENT OXYGEN SUPPLY. THE MEDICATION SHE SWALLOWED WAS SO STRONG THAT IT SLOWED HER RESPIRATORY SYSTEM ALMOST COMPLETELY DOWN. SHE WAS ALMOST DEAD. AS THE OTHER UPDATES HAVE TOLD YOU, HAYDEN IS STILL HANGING ON. HOWEVER, HAYDENS DADS FATHER IS TRYING TO PERSECUTE HAYDENS MOTHER AND GRANDMOTHER FOR SOMETHING THAT WAS A MERE ACCIDENT THAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED TO ANY ONE,IN ANY PLACE HAYDEN MAY HAVE BEEN.
HAYDENS GRANDMOTHER IS HAVING AN EXTREMELY HARD TIME COPING WITH THE FACT THAT SHE HASN’T BEEN ALLOWED TO SEE HAYDEN SINCE NOVEMBER 12TH DUE TO A RESTRAINING ORDER OBTAINED BY HAYDENS DAD AND GRANDFATHER. SHE HAS EVEN BEEN INVESTIGATED BY THE LOCAL SHERIFFS OFFICE AND A REPORT SENT TO THE DAS OFFICE FOR EVALUATION. I ASK FOR YOUR PRAYERS FOR THIS WONDERFUL GRANDMOTHER AND MY FRIEND. I KNOW IN MY HEART THAT SHE COULD NEVER OR WOULD EVER HARM THE GRANDDAUGHTER SHE LOVED MORE THAN HER OWN CHILDREN.

  3. Hi, Jackie, thanks for providing additional information. Hayden’s website hasn’t been updated since December 17; it’s good to hear what’s going on.

I wasn’t there, of course, so I have no idea whether there is blame to be had. I only reported what the DA and CPS are doing. The fact that a judge put out a restraining order against the mother and grandmother, though, carries some weight with me.

I pray for Hayden, John, Ryan, and Hayden’s mother and grandmother. May God’s will be done.

  4. Thank You Jackie. I am Hayden’s Greatgrandmother and all that Jackie has written is the God’s truth. It has broken my heart to the things John Pulis has written in about my family. My God help him for he has alot of problems with his son Ryan and his past. But yet he claims to be a christen and drag down my family. I ask you John why?????????? Where were you when Sherry spent 24/7 at the hospital till you made it where she couldn’t see her granddaughter? May I add Jennifer my granddaughter was only 17 years of age when she got pregnant by your 26 yr.old son but I never made judgement like you have against my family. You are the one who needs prayed for. Thank You for all the heart ache you have caused this family and may God forgive you for all the lies.

  5. Michael I would like to Thank You for all your updates on my greatgranddaughter and all the prayers you have ask from every body. But please make sure the things that you post are true. There are two sides to this story and before posting any more I would find out the truth so you don’t hurt my family any more.

  6. To the best of my ability, I have posted what I know to be true. I thank you for your update, but I will point out that John neither injured Hayden, nor brought your granddaughter into court. The sheriff’s office and CPS believe Hayden suffered her injuries while in your daughter and granddaughter’s care. Even Jackie’s post above supports that. Your anger toward John is misplaced if John is acting on information from CPS and the sheriff.

May God be with you and your family during this time.

About Me

Michael, a sinner saved by grace, sharing what the good Lord has shared with me.

Solomon, in the book of Ecclesiastes, said, “I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.”

If you’re not living for the glory of God, then what you’re doing is meaningless, no matter what it is. Living for God gives life meaning, and enjoying a “chasing after the wind” is a gift from God. I’m doing what I can to enjoy this gift daily.

Got questions? I’m not surprised. If you have any questions about Chasing the Wind, you can email me at chasingthewind@outlook.com.
