Chasing the Wind

News. Faith. Nonsense.

Weekend Recap – With Recipes!

What a wonderful weekend. Have I ever mentioned how much I love my 3-day weekends? 3-Day Weekends! 3-Day Weekends! 3-Day Weekends! Oops, sorry, carried away there for a sec. 🙂

I can see I enjoyed the weekend so much I forgot to post a thing, so let me get caught up here. My weekend actually started Thursday night when Diane brought over some award-winning chili for Alex & me. I especially liked the apple bacon in the chili which gave it a very slight sweet flavor. Afterwards, the three of us played Balderdash, where we made up new definitions for sniggle, farzechat, and gork.

Friday morning I took Patch to the groomer to get him all spiffy for the weekend; after dropping him off, Diane invited me over for some apple cinnamon oatmeal for breakfast. The weather was still a little chilly Friday, so that warmed me up.

Back home to read email and goof off for an hour, then finish off the rest of the chili for lunch. By then, Patch was ready, so I went to pick him up. Dang, I’m going to have to get a digital camera so I can show pictures; Patch was all foo-foo and doesn’t even know it. He even has a little blue bandana with a snowman on it. If he was a junior high student, I’d be compelled to give him a wedgie just for being so foo-foo.

We went straight to the vet for his annual checkup with rabies and other shots. Now, Patch loves his ride in the car, to and from the groomer, but when we hit the vet door and he realized where he was, he hit the brakes. He started pedaling backwards, but they have tile flooring with no grip. Patch just sort of spun in place without catching any traction.

A little old lady came in while we were in the waiting room with a schnauzer mix. I think it was a schnauzer, but it was high strung. She must have been pushing 80, but she had a 1 inch think leash and holding on to the dog for dear life. She sat down next to me. In a couple of seconds, the receptionist came out and said, “Hello Mrs. Ruth. Have you been here long?”

Mrs. Ruth said, “Hours. Days, maybe. When will somebody be able to see me?” I thought she was funny. 🙂

Patch got his shots and checked out ok; the vet said, “His teeth are so clean. Have you been giving him Greenies?” I told the vet about the Go Dogs, Go story and said Patch probably got one or two, but based on the green poop, we know Bella ate most of them. 🙂

I dropped Patch at home, then to the grocery store to prepare for Saturday’s feast, then home again. By this time it’s 7 o’clock or so, so I paid a few bills and then went back to playing games. Diane came over around 8:30; she had spent the day helping out some friends. I’m pretty sure we watched a movie on the sofa, but I can’t remember for the life of me.

Dang. It’s a long post already. I’ll follow up with Saturday’s recipes later today.

About Me

Michael, a sinner saved by grace, sharing what the good Lord has shared with me.

Solomon, in the book of Ecclesiastes, said, “I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.”

If you’re not living for the glory of God, then what you’re doing is meaningless, no matter what it is. Living for God gives life meaning, and enjoying a “chasing after the wind” is a gift from God. I’m doing what I can to enjoy this gift daily.

Got questions? I’m not surprised. If you have any questions about Chasing the Wind, you can email me at chasingthewind@outlook.com.

    I.             Introduction An old friend once told me a story that every married man understands. I.             Icebreaker — Stories of Reconciliation Before we turn to Nehemiah, let me connect us to where we’ve been the past couple of weeks. Two weeks ago, Tommy used home renovation shows—things like Property Brothers—to help us think about rebuilding. That fit Nehemiah well, because Nehemiah quite literally asks the king for permission to rebuild… Read more: Confession, Reconciliation, Celebration
