Liberal Columnist Asks: What if Bush was Right All Along?

Columnist Mark Brown isn’t entirely convinced. But at least he’s asking the right questions:

Maybe you’re like me and have opposed the Iraq war since before the shooting started — not to the point of joining any peace protests, but at least letting people know where you stood.
[…]
But after watching Sunday’s election in Iraq and seeing the first clear sign that freedom really may mean something to the Iraqi people, you have to be asking yourself: What if it turns out Bush was right, and we were wrong?

Certainly a good question to ask. Nothing wrong with re-evaluating your position in the face of new evidence.

I’ve posted here on Chasing the Wind that of course the Iraq War was a bad thing. A terrible thing. Was is ugly. People die.

But not going to war was worse. Estimates of maybe 300,000 Iraqis dead under Saddam Hussein. Torture was routine.

Not enough? Another 500,000 Iraqis died in the war against Iran. Ya know, when you’re approaching a million people killed under a single dictator, perhaps you ought to consider, you know, asking him to stop. Politely. And use tanks, if you must.

A couple of years after launching a war again Saddam, we see Iraqis celebrating in the streets with their purple stained election finger, and people who opposed the war can either a) condemn the Iraqis for celebrating the election, or b) question whether perhaps Bush was right all along.

If it turns out Bush was right all along, this is going to require some serious penance.

Maybe I’d have to vote Republican in 2008.

Well, if you insist, Mark. You go right ahead. 🙂

  1. “freedom really may mean something to the Iraqi people”

What is this guy thinking? Show me a nation where freedom didn’t mean something to the citizens. It is quite obvious that this man has lived so long in a free Country that he’s taken freedom for granted. Perhaps this lib and others like him should live for a while under the brutal dictators they defend. Then he/they would see how sweet freedom truly is.

  3. NBC reporter David Gregory, at least, is still hoping for a quagmire in Iraq — possibly because Bush mocked him at a press conference three years ago: Pride and Prejudice

About Me

Michael, a sinner saved by grace, sharing what the good Lord has shared with me.

Solomon, in the book of Ecclesiastes, said, “I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.”

If you’re not living for the glory of God, then what you’re doing is meaningless, no matter what it is. Living for God gives life meaning, and enjoying a “chasing after the wind” is a gift from God. I’m doing what I can to enjoy this gift daily.
