I’m not surprised. Although gays and lesbians have been successful at convincing the secular world to accept their lifestyle, it’s a lot harder to edit the bible to accept your lifestyle. Christians should never allow any sort of unrepentent sinner to lead them.
The vast majority of people going to church share conservative values, but the US and Canadian Episcopalian churches have moved away from conservative values when they appointed Gene Robinson as an openly gay bishop.
This quote tells me that the liberal side of the church doesn’t have any idea what’s gone wrong with their church – or worse, they’re intentionally leading the church in an errant direction:
In the liberal camp, American Bishop Steve Charleston said the North Americans were unlikely to change their position.
“I think Gene is something of a champion of human rights,” he told BBC Radio.
“Like people of color before him, they got tired of sitting at the back of the bus and it was time to stand up and say ‘Here I am, I am an honest decent human being and you must treat me with respect.’ That is essentially what Gene is doing and I honor him for it.”
This has nothing to do with human rights. They’re not being asked to sit at the back of the bus. God’s Word teaches that sexual immorality is a sin. Any form of sexual immorality.
The point of that is that Christian churches may differ on interpretation of God’s Word, but they may not pick and choose from God’s Word. Sin is death. True Christian churches would no more allow a gay pastor than they would an adulterous pastory – it is a sin, and all unrepentant sin defies God and denies the sinner from salvation.
Should churches welcome sinners, even if they’re gay? Of course – all men and women are sinners, and we are not to judge whether some sins are acceptable and others are not. But the sin is not welcome – that’s the whole point of seeking God. A healthy church doesn’t seek to bend God’s will to accept their behavior; a healthy church bends their behavior to God’s will.
Romans 1:24-32
Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator–who is forever praised. Amen.Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.
Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, Godhaters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
