Chasing the Wind

News. Faith. Nonsense.

Brian Welch's Testimony

I wrote a few days ago about Brian “Head” Welch, the former guitarist for the vulgar Korn band, quitting in order to devote his life to Christ. Brian says it was the influence of his music on his 6 year old daughter that finally convinced him to quit.

I dug around this morning until I found his story; Brian has a new website up called “Head to Christ.” He doesn’t have much content there yet, but he does have mp3’s of the testimony he gave Sunday; here is Part I and Part II.

I’m going to add his website to the “Faith” Blogrolling section and check back later to see how our new brother’s ministry is progressing. 🙂

Update: Brian Welch is baptized in the River Jordan.

  1. Just out of curiostiy. Have you ever listened to Korn’s music?

  2. Not intentionally. I did look up some of their lyrics; “The Christmas Song” was so vulgar I didn’t look any further.

  3. Yeah but you really can’t go by that. “XXXmas Song” is just a goof. Its not really like what their actual album material is like. Perhaps you should go listen to something before refering to this is nonsense. 😉

  4. Actually, I can go by that. It’s offensive, ergo Korn plays offensive music. I scanned several other songs like “Freak on a Leash” and found no positive or socially redeeming qualities. I stand by my statement that Korn is vulgar.

  5. Look Korn’s music to many might be vulgar, but to many its as well as consuling, its udnerstanding to many, many connect with the music, its all in how you interpret it, cause know what i myself im christian…i know i have parted my path from god in many ways, but in no way has Korn ever made me feel like there isnt a god out there, or made me feel like Jesus Christ is not my savor, and thats all i wanted to state

2 very opposite worlds coming together through Brian’s life choices.
Agree to disagree, what I dont understand is the respect we korn fans show christian lifestyle and the lack of that we are being shown.
    Good luck to you Brian!

  12. I don’t know if it’s a matter of “respect;” I think many Christians feel Brian Welch has been rescued from the previous lifestyle. While Christians can always do a better job of respecting the people, respecting the lifestyle is not something we are called to do.

  13. Perhaps KornFanX should re-evaluate his/her music choices. Not only is the xmas song vulgar, there are many others. A.D.I.D.A.S and “k@#%!” are both downright pornographic. Not to mention the F-word riddled songs (like Trash, Y’all want a single and All in the Family). I am a former Korn addict. If Korn is o.k. and just an ‘expression’, why has Brian Welch left?

    James 3:3-6
When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

She used to be doing drugs and ended up in a mental hospital because she used to cut herself everywhere. My sister and I are a huge miracle like Brian is. If I keep going on I will fill this whole page! I respect and admire Brian with all my heart and wish him the best, and hope that God gives him strenghth to go on eventhough people say horrible things about him.God bless you and your family Brian!

  16. michael dont be so close minded. u havent even listened to the music and u hate it. Korn are excellent musicians. Its not all about lyrics. Their singer is really messed up and that is his way of expressing it to the world…yes it is vulgar, extremely offensive but i respect them as musicians and innovators and dont even think about the lyrics. Besides, not every single song is vulgar or uses harsh words and merely reflect the pain felt by an extremely tormented man. So before you judge wordly music, u should actually listen to the actual song, including instruments, song structure etc. not just lyrics. Their singer also happens to have a very good voice, possibly the best in nu-metal music today.

Everything you say and everything you hear molds your character. Listen to enough vulgarity and you become vulgar.

  19. I used to listen to korn, i stopped listening just before head left.
I used to to think the music was good and made me feel good, but in reality its depressing and vulgar, the lyrics are foul, and please don’t say thay are not because i used to be a korn fan and when you listen to them lyrics and then read the bible and follow christ, you realise that korn are spreading a bad vibe when really we should forget our pasts and move forward with christ.
Bless head for his massive life changing choice, he has proved that god wants to help all of us.

  21. I really do think ur narrow minded michael, not all of us are put in this world for good, there is always a balance for everything. for every good, there is an evil. now as for korn’s music well, many of the people that connect to korn do so for a reason.the simple fact is that their music speaks of the reality of life. the one many have to go thru everyday. and the way u speak of it is almost as if anybody who listens to korn you instantly classify them as scums of the earth, when a person truly cannot be judged by such a thing. if u feel so greatly about god and jesus that just makes me wonder whats truly ur purpose in looking at the “evil” and “vulgar”, as u would consider it.
btw theres never such a thing as “Not intentionally” everything has a reason.

  22. “Not all of us are put in this world for good?” And that’s your justification for promoting evil?

I didn’t say that people who listen to Korn were evil. That would be judgemental. I said that the music Korn plays was evil.

If you want to justify evil, you’re going to have to do better than that.

God bless everyone, “Head”, and all the opther members of Korn to.

Ok, I think everyone is getting off track of what this girl was trying to say. I believe that she is stating that many of Korns songs are beneficial in helping some people cope with things that may have occurred in their lives. Many of Korns lyrics are offensive to a lot of people, but is it the meaning of every song and every lyrics that is offensive or is it just the words. Music is an expression of self and many of Korn’s songs deal with the lead singers troubled childhood which was wrought with emotional, physical and sexual abuse. The raw emotion and release that is present in many of the songs is what I think the girl was trying to hit upon. When they listen to the music they feel, empathy. the think, “hey there is someone out there who is hurting just like I do”. I am not condoning all of Korns lyrics, but they have some redeeming qualites. To judge a bands anthology by the lyrics or your perceived meaning to many of their songs and deam them unlistenable to all christians is not fair. Unless you are Jonathan Davis (Lead singer of the band) You will never know what kind of message all of songs are trying to push. Many of his songs are actually about not allowing all the troubles of his past keep him down. Music is interpretive and what each person gets out of a song is the most important. Some of their songs may be bad, but some also may be good. If we were to go by the criteria you have set forth some one who looks in to the lyrics of “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”, “Helter Skelter”, might immediately dismiss the Beatles as vulgar trash and not fit to listen to. Wouldn’t that be a mistake? Just my $.02

It’s all about the psychological effects of Korn on kids, Brian “Head” Welch’s conversion and subsequent humanitarian efforts. About Me

Michael, a sinner saved by grace, sharing what the good Lord has shared with me.

Solomon, in the book of Ecclesiastes, said, “I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.”

If you’re not living for the glory of God, then what you’re doing is meaningless, no matter what it is. Living for God gives life meaning, and enjoying a “chasing after the wind” is a gift from God. I’m doing what I can to enjoy this gift daily.

Got questions? I’m not surprised. If you have any questions about Chasing the Wind, you can email me at chasingthewind@outlook.com.
