Best new WordPress feature: the Blacklist.
I get a lot of comment spam, and none of it from very nice people. First it was a bunch of online poker sites, but then it escalated into a lot of porn. With WordPress 1.2, the spam got posted right away, and I’d have to delete it later. Or the post would get “moderated” based on keywords – you can’t use the word “poker” in a comment, for instance. I’d still have to delete the spam manually, 1 post at a time. And since the spammers use ‘bots to do the posting, they could post 250 porn comments in 10 minutes.
Now WordPress 1.5 has three new methods to deal with this:
One: First time posters automatically get moderated. Once I approve one of your posts, all your future posts are automatically approved. That stops the spam from ever appearing on the front page.
Two: A mass edit button. With the push of 1 button, I can delete all 250 pieces of spam at once.
Three: My favorite, the Blacklist. Once some icky website spams me, I copy their website name to my blacklist file, and their posts are automatically deleted without me ever seeing it. Poof, just like that, it disappears. I love it! 🙂
