Chasing the Wind

News. Faith. Nonsense.

Appraisal Cap Defeat – The Morning After

Lone Star Times has the recap of yesterday’s stunning defeat of the appraisal cap bill. 36 Republicans voted against us; the House was “whooping” with delight.

Basically, instead of voting on the measure, they added an amendment that deleted all the words, then passed the amendment without debate. Here’s the full transcript of the Texas House thumbing their nose at us.

Next year I estimate my property taxes will increase from $6200 to $6820. The year after that, $7502.

It’s time to vote the RINOs out of office.

Update: Hypocrite Fred Hill campaigned on lower property tax values:

Q: What issues will you address for your district?

A: There is nothing more important to my district and to Texas than the issue of public education. The legislature must find a way to eliminate Robin Hood and to relieve the property tax burden on local property owners while at the same time implementing a tax system that will serve the long term needs of the schools. We have dealt with the problem of financing schools with band aid solutions far too long. The legislature must find an answer that will last decades and not just a few years. We have missed an opportunity to solve this problem in a special session so, it now must become the issue of paramount importance in the regular session.

About Me

Michael, a sinner saved by grace, sharing what the good Lord has shared with me.

Solomon, in the book of Ecclesiastes, said, “I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.”

If you’re not living for the glory of God, then what you’re doing is meaningless, no matter what it is. Living for God gives life meaning, and enjoying a “chasing after the wind” is a gift from God. I’m doing what I can to enjoy this gift daily.

His wife tried on a new dress and asked, “Does this dress make me look fat?” He answered with complete honesty. It was true – and it was also unwise. I.             Icebreaker — Stories of Reconciliation Before we turn to Nehemiah, let me connect us to where we’ve been the past couple of weeks. Two weeks ago, Tommy used home renovation shows—things like Property Brothers—to help us think about rebuilding. That fit Nehemiah well, because Nehemiah quite literally asks the king for permission to rebuild… Read more: Confession, Reconciliation, Celebration

    I.             Introduction Israel had long been warned that disobedience would lead to captivity. Jerusalem fell, many were exiled, and empires changed hands.
