Sunrise Over Nova Scotia

I had forgotten how interesting traveling can be; it’s been over 6 years since I returned from Singapore. I woke yesterday morning to a very lovely sunrise over Nova Scotia from 35,000 feet.

I am in Duisberg, Germany now on business and enjoying the cultural differences. For one thing, I have a very German last name, so everybody speaks to be in German. I have to constantly interrupt with, “I don’t speak German.”

I didn’t think I was going to get to post much, but I have a laptop with me and can compose my blatherings offline and post them later. Right now it’s 1:41pm Houston time but only 15°C here, and hopefully before I turn in tonight I can login and post my stuff.

And I’m not currently news savvy – all the news here is in German. I have heard about the hurricane headed to Houston, though, but I hope to be back before then.

Here’s a question I want to know the answer to: Why do we call this place Germany? The Germans call it Deutschland. Why don’t we call it Deutschland? It’s like telling somebody I’m from America and they say, “We call your country ‘Discoland’.” I just don’t get it.

If I don’t get to post, my brother promises to cover for me with pictures of his chicken, so I know things are in good hands. His birthday is tomorrow so be sure to wish him a happy birthday.

Anyway, that’s it for today. Tomorrow I hope to buy some fine German chocolate for my wife. Ssshhh… don’t tell her. 😛

Solomon, in the book of Ecclesiastes, said, “I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.”

If you’re not living for the glory of God, then what you’re doing is meaningless, no matter what it is. Living for God gives life meaning, and enjoying a “chasing after the wind” is a gift from God. I’m doing what I can to enjoy this gift daily.
