Chasing the Wind

News. Faith. Nonsense.

We Take These for Granted

Found at “Iraq at a Glance“, a blog written by an Iraqi dentist in Baghdad. Iraqis have found the free American blogging websites and are happily posting about their newfound freedom. Isn’t liberty wonderful? Here’s a sample:

A New Life

‘The Minister of Health ( during the ex-regime) was turning a blind eye to the medical and dental centers and the hospitals, he was preoccupied in how to steal as much as he could, never paid attention to our complaints and needs, Saddam and his thugs destroyed Iraq….’ Said Dr. U..
I asked him about those great changes, the rebuilding, the new equipments and the new smiling dentists in the center!
He said : ‘Bechtel Company made all these improvements, now the center is perfect, we are so pleased.. new clean institutes, new salaries and so NEW LIFE.. Of course you see the dentists and doctors are happy and smile, have you ever seen them happy under Saddam?!! they were bewildered all the time, thinking in how to make their living…’.
Dr.U said: ‘ believe me, I would commit suicide and get rid of this life if G.W.Bush cancelled his plan to liberate Iraq.. Thank God.. He did it’..

“Suggestion Box”

—this small box written on it ‘ complaints and proposals’ is something wonderful in the new governmental institutes, now the Iraqi has the right to say what he wants and suggests whatever he thinks good, write it on a paper and just put it in this box! At last.. We can make a suggestion and no one arrest us!

I’m amazed that something as simple as a suggestion box is such a freedom to Iraqis.

  1. Some days I wonder why we are in Iraq trying to help out a country that doesn’t want us over there. From the news media everything negative is reported in huge fonts across the top of the front page. We all know that war sells papers. Fuzzy puppy won’t.
Only after realizing that there is a entire country over there that is screaming for help and is so tired of a life of cruelty, that I know why we are there. We are there because of the people that don’t make the headlines of the papers. The millions of ordinary folks that just want a smiling and clean work place so they can earn a living and go home to take care of there families. We are there for the them.
Thanks for the blog on Dr. U. It was very refreshing!

Well, I have been holding out hope that Conservative Crust would work out his technical problems and come back online. However, since we are six weeks into the shutdown I…

About Me

Michael, a sinner saved by grace, sharing what the good Lord has shared with me.

Solomon, in the book of Ecclesiastes, said, “I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.”

If you’re not living for the glory of God, then what you’re doing is meaningless, no matter what it is. Living for God gives life meaning, and enjoying a “chasing after the wind” is a gift from God. I’m doing what I can to enjoy this gift daily.

Got questions? I’m not surprised. If you have any questions about Chasing the Wind, you can email me at chasingthewind@outlook.com.

      I.      Introduction – The Temple In our class last week, Tommy taught us that we should be prepared for the coming of the Lord.  Well, He’s here.  And here in Luke 2, we get our only inspired snapshot of Jesus between infancy and adulthood.  And we’ll see in just a few short verses something… Read more: The Temple

    I.             Introduction An old friend once told me a story that every married man understands. Later he said something I have never forgotten: truth and… Read more: Finding Wisdom

    I.             Icebreaker — Stories of Reconciliation Before we turn to Nehemiah, let me connect us to where we’ve been the past couple of weeks. Two weeks ago, Tommy used home renovation shows—things like Property Brothers—to help us think about rebuilding. That fit Nehemiah well, because Nehemiah quite literally asks the king for permission to rebuild… Read more: Confession, Reconciliation, Celebration
