Dear Chasing the Wind…
Recently I’ve become involved with someone. He’s trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent. A real boy scout. I find I spend all my time with him, and I enjoy my his company very much. In fact, it’s like dating myself.
No, I don’t mean carbon-dating. This is serious. Well, carbon-dating is serious, sure, but I’m not that old. I mean, I still have a little spring in my step, a little bat in my “Play ball!” if you know what I mean, but I’m certainly not old enough for carbon-dating.
Will you be quiet for just a second? I’m trying to tell a story. Sheesh.
No, I mean dating and romance and stuff. Earlier this week, he sent me chocolate truffles and mini roses. They were so precious! I immediately planted the mini roses by the front door where I will he will see them every time he comes over. I hope he didn’t spend too much money, but he assures me I’m worth it. He was sort of vague about where he got them – something about switching long distance companies. What could long distance service have to do with roses? He said it’s because he said he just knew I’d prefer these over cookies or nuts and pears. He is so mysterious, I like that about him.
And then last night, spur of the moment, he took me to a movie! We went to see the third Harry Potter movie, “Prisoner of Azkaban” with some of his friends. I saw the first movie long ago – it was ok, but bland, so I didn’t see the second one. I didn’t plan on seeing the third one either.
Where the first two Potters were efficiently if uninspiredly directed by an eager-to-please Chris Columbus, Cuaron has crafted a rich, atmospheric stand-alone motion picture rather than simply a filmed adaptation.
If I had read this review first, I might have been more excited up-front. The movie was excellent – funny moments, rich scenes full of subleties, and excellent plot. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The company was great, too.
Obviously, I feel he feels comfortable enough to take me out to the movies on short notice with other friends, but I’m starting to feel this relationship moving too fast, going too far. If he calls today, I’m not answering the phone. I plan on renting “When Harry Met Sally,” curl up on the sofa with a fuzzy afghan and eat the entire box of truffles. Am I being unreasonable?
Signed,
Beside Myself
