I was reading a post from Messy Christian who expressed frustration with a call of evangelism. That’s understandable, especially if evangelism is not your “spiritual gift.” While all Christians are called to spread the gospel and to exemplify a Christian lifestyle, evangelism is one of a dozen or so gifts mentioned in scripture. Others are teaching, giving, mercy, leadership, service, and more. Furthermore, 1 Corinthians 12 indicates that we are all parts of the body of Christ, but we are parts. We’re not expected to do everything, just do what we can with what we have been blessed with.
I found a Christian resource that discusses these Spiritual Gifts and I encourage you to visit. There are two links on that page; 11 Teaching Sessions that will lead you through what the scripture says about spiritual gifts, what the gifts are, how we get them and how to use them, and the Spiritual Gifts Inventory that will help you figure out what your gifts are based on your interests.
And if your gift isn’t the spiritual gift of evangelizing, that’s ok. Use what you have. 🙂
