Comment Spam

Yuck. Comment Spam.

You don’t see very much of it on Chasing the Wind because I’ve put a few key phrases in a spam filter, but I think the only two words I need are “viagra” and “poker” in that file. If you attempt to comment using one of those words, it goes into a holding pattern, and I have to approve it before it gets posted.

Not that the spammers care. They’ve written programs to automatically post comments to each and every post. None of them show up here, but it’s annoying to find my inbox full of “Please approve this message” warnings. There were 145 of them this morning, so I’ve tweaked some files again to break their program again. It usually takes them a few days to realize it’s broken.

I’m going to have to find a new solution that doesn’t require so much intervention from me. Perhaps Spam Karma.

Three rules for the spam game:

1) you can not win.
2) you can not draw.
3) you can not leave the play.

Greetings,

Antonio, from Malaga (Spain)

I get about 400 pieces of unwanted spam every week, or 20,000 pieces a year. I’ve had enough.
