Dick Cheney Can Be President

I’m not sure I understand the choice of John Edwards for VP. The hard right is going to vote for Bush no matter what. The hard left is going to vote for Kerry no matter what. So wouldn’t the Dems be better off picking somebody closer to the center? Instead, they choose somebody that may be even more liberal than Kerry.

A reporter today tried to … I dunno, get Bush to say Edwards was a good choice. Bush just happened to be campaigning in Edward’s home state of North Carolina, and Bush shot that question down effortlessly like a Patriot missle taking down a SCUD:

REPORTER: If I could try another Edwards question — he’s being described today as charming, engaging, a nimble campaigner, a populist, and even sexy. How does he stack up against Dick Cheney?

BUSH: Dick Cheney can be president.

Slam. Dunk.

  1. Slam dunk my ass, it was just a cheap shot. Edwards has the same amount of experience in public service that Dubya did when he became president — perhaps even more, if you consider that he’s served on Senate Intelligence committees.

  2. Bush wasn’t asked to compare Edward’s 2004 experience against Bush’s 2000 experience. He was asked about Edwards 2004 not-yet-a-full-Senate-term experience against Cheney’s 2004 served-under-4-separate-Presidents-since-1974 experience.
