I upgraded to a beta verstion of WordPress tonight and broke something. Unfortunately, I’m not smart enough to fix it, nor am I smart enough to go backwards.
In the meantime, comments are broken. I’ll just have to talk to myself. La la la. Permalinks are also broken. Trackbacks, too, probably. I hope to have it fixed as soon as somebody smarter than me has a moment to tell me what I broke.

Testing comments…

How did you restore the Comment function, Michael? Mine is broken too, ever since I moved my blog from one hosting company to another. (Everything else seems OK; just Comments are kaput.)

Bill, I don’t know if your problems are the same as mine. When I upgraded to 1.3 beta, I had trouble with the style sheets, login page, and comments. I tracked it down to the variable ‘siteurl’ being overwritten, but I couldn’t figure out *why* it was being overwritten.
When a visitor tried to comment, they were redirected to a blank login page instead. Logins aren’t required, but with ‘siteurl’ overwritten, any comment was redirected to random locations like the login page or even other websites.
I deleted everything in the \wordpress folder, reinstalled 1.2 from scratch, ran upgrade.php to downgrade to wordpress 1.2. Siteurl is no longer being overwritten and visitors can comment again.
Trackbacks are broken again (the original problem I was trying to fix), but I’d rather live with broken trackbacks than an entire hosed blog.
‘Hosed Blog’ sounds funny.
