Twas the Night After College

They come back, don’t they?

My son and I left early for Sam Houston State. There were lots of errands to do; old dad was huffin’ and puffin’ emptying both cars. College teens were whistling while carrying 200 lb trunks on their shoulders; I’m dragging a suitcase. With wheels.

Then a trip over to the bank to deposit his graduation money and open an account. Then buy his first round of books. Gadzooks; $475. After lunch back to his dorm and setup the computer and make the bed.

Dorms have changed since I went to school. He has his own room; he shares a small suite with a nice young fellow named Sean. They share a bathroom off of a join living area that has a sofa, shair, coffee table, microwave, refrigerator and sink. Man, that is upscale.

By mid-afternoon we were done, thankfully, because I was worn out. I pray he does well this first semester. Part of me has this list of things for him to do; walk the campus and find your classes, find the cafeteria, but I think I’m done.

Time for Alex to do this by himself.

    Wow, dorms must have changed since I went to school, too. That was about, oh, four months ago.

    My goodness! That is certainly not like any dorm I’ve been in! And my parents thought I had it good…. Glad you’re back, sounds like you’re handling it all well.

Solomon, in the book of Ecclesiastes, said, “I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.”

If you’re not living for the glory of God, then what you’re doing is meaningless, no matter what it is. Living for God gives life meaning, and enjoying a “chasing after the wind” is a gift from God. I’m doing what I can to enjoy this gift daily.
