You know, sometimes you scare me. Overall, I get what it was going for, but showing terrorists and flashing “ISLAM” is like showing the KKK and flashing “CHRISTIANITY”.
Even I have to agree with Jo on that. Not all Islamics are like that (and I’m sure most/all of us know that firsthand). I think the point was “Islamic Extremists” in that portion of the movie, and the same can be changed with your KKK example. For the record, I think the KKK were more about promoting their race than their religion.
Ok, just watched it for the 7th and 8th time. I was watching for the “Islam” flash with the terrorists, and I noticed something about it. In all the incidents, it shows the terrorists upon the word “whirlwind” and it shows the word “Islam” upon the word(s) “thorn tree”. I don’t see anything wrong with that; even roses have thorns. It’s the whirlwind that throws those thorns everywhere. All in all, I still think it’s a good movie.
The first KKK was founded by veterans of the Confederate Army in 1865 on the principle of white supremacy, but disbanded by 1880. The second KKK started in 1915 and was against blacks, Jews, Roman Catholics, and immigrants. By the 1960’s, it was predominantly for white supremacy again. I’ve never heard of them described as a Christian group before.
Still, the point is taken. As the KKK basically stands for intolerance today, so Islam will stand for terrorism unless the moderate Islamists take a stand against violence. So far, there are precious few examples of moderate muslim groups denouncing the violence.
