Chasing the Wind

News. Faith. Nonsense.

Verse of the Day

I made some minor tweaks to the sidebar tonight. The weather forecast wasn’t as useful as I thought and I decided it didn’t deserve the prominent place it held near the top, so I dropped it all the way to the bottom.

At the bottom used to be the Daily Manna, a bible verse for the day. I moved that to the Faith page and added a bible search tool. I still like the Daily Manna, but I found something I think I like better.

In its place, or actually just under the archive calendar, I’ve added Verse of the Day. It’s a little more concise, but what I like about it is that when you click the logo it takes you to a short study about what today’s verse means and offers a related prayer you can use for the day.

For instance, today is Proverbs 11:22:

Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout is a beautiful woman who shows no discretion.

And you might think, “what the heck does that mean?” Clicking on the link give you this thought:

To take what is physically beautiful and then profane it with sin is to waste a great gift to bless someone who doesn’t even have a clue why God gave it to her or him. No matter what gifts we have been given, whether physical beauty, athletic talent, keen intellect, a charming personality, or anything else, we must remember that God blessed us with these things so we could bless others and honor him!

and then a prayer:

Dear God, please forgive me for the times that I have not used my gifts and abilities to bless others and honor you. Please give me a renewed sense of purpose as I seek to live for your glory and to bless others with your grace. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

  1. Isn’t it amazing that when we need to be reminded of things it always comes to us one way or another – – this time it came from you and your blog – – thank you, Michael

  4. I looked at 3 different tools to do this. I was using Daily Manna for a while. I think Daily Manna chooses better verses. There’s also Bible Gateway That’s nice. But I like the study and prayer that’s tailored to Verse of the Day the best.

I’m glad you reminded me. I Blogrolled “Lions and Lambs” today. 🙂

About Me

Michael, a sinner saved by grace, sharing what the good Lord has shared with me.

Solomon, in the book of Ecclesiastes, said, “I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.”

If you’re not living for the glory of God, then what you’re doing is meaningless, no matter what it is. Living for God gives life meaning, and enjoying a “chasing after the wind” is a gift from God. I’m doing what I can to enjoy this gift daily.

Got questions? I’m not surprised. If you have any questions about Chasing the Wind, you can email me at chasingthewind@outlook.com.

    I.             Icebreaker — Stories of Reconciliation Before we turn to Nehemiah, let me connect us to where we’ve been the past couple of weeks.
