But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere. For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are an aroma that brings death; to the other, an aroma that brings life. And who is equal to such a task? Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, as those sent from God. 2 Corinthians 2:14-17 TNIV Bible
What does it mean to be a Christian? We are to be a continuous sacrifice to God. In the Old Testament, burnt offerings had an aroma that were pleasing to God. First a sacrifice for a man, then a sacrifice for a family, then a nation. The final sacrifice, Christ, is a sacrifice for all. And now as we have bound ourselves to Christ, God uses us to illustrate His abounding grace. And when we illustrate this grace, it’s not a wishy-washy illustration – we illustrate God’s grace through eternal life to those who will receive Christ, but to the others, we merely illustrate death. No wonder some despise Christians, even when Christians are preaching love and forgiveness.
How is God using you? Are you illustrating God’s work in you?
